SISHEN & KOLOMELA IRON ORE MINES - Bitfoundry Industry 4.0

The Sishen mine is a large iron mine located in central South Africa in Kathu, Northern Cape. Sishen represents one of the largest iron ore reserves globally having estimated reserves of 2.43 billion tonnes of ore grading 58.6% iron metal.

We were tasked to setup dust monitoring (particulate matter) PM2.5 and PM10. The solution consisted of fixed and mobile stations mounted on trailers with installed data loggers.

Data is also sent to the cloud server via GSM and can be remotely accessed through a Windows application. The bulk of the stations are solar-powered due to lack of accessible power where they are situated around the mines.

  1. Greetings,

I am a UCT master’s student currently engaged in a study focused on the air quality and meteorological conditions of the Northern Cape. As part of my research, I am in need of specific meteorological and air quality data pertaining to parts of the Northern Cape from 2019 to the most recent dataset available.
Could you kindly provide me with the ambient air quality and meteorological data recorded at the site. This data is integral for the progression of my research, as I aim to conduct a thorough analysis of the air quality in this location in order to contribute to a comprehensive master’s thesis. Full acknowledgement and accreditation as well as proper citing of the source will be noted.
Your assistance in providing this data would be greatly appreciated, and it will significantly aid me in advancing my research endevours.

    Thank you.
